National Center for State Courts headquarters in Williamsburg, VA

One of the many reasons I like the professionals at the National Center for State Courts is their willingness to step up to the plate when problems strike the courts. They did it with courtroom security resources and symposiums after the shootings at the Atlanta courts, they produced a heap of materials to help with disaster continuing court operations plans after Katrina, and now they have launched a new online Budget Resource Center.

According to an email blast on their terrific Court2Court listserv:

Courts have an online source for current information about court budgets nationwide. NCSC’s Budget Resource Center provides access to all the pertinent information NCSC has on court budgets-what courts need to weather current and future budget crises-in one central location.

Items include Court Executive Development Program papers, Future Trends articles, links to court-budget Web sites, and a Google newsfeed on budget-related issues. NCSC’s online Budget Resource Center also provides a national map of cost-saving actions states are taking to meet budget demands. Just click on the appropriate state for a detailed list of what that state is doing.

These are indeed dangerous budgetary times in our courts, and kudos to the National Center for State Courts for being there to help. For more information about the Budget Resource Center, contact Gregory S. Hurley, Knowledge Management Analyst at ghurley@ncsc.org.

NCSC also has a new State Courts and the Economy newsletter that is worth your attention. You can sign-up for an e-subscription online.

When times get tough, you learn pretty quickly who your friends are !!
